Pavel Ralev

Pavel is a Bulgarian classical guitarist and teacher. He started playing at age 10, after being introduced to the guitar by his parents, who are amateur players, and started taking lessons a few years later. Shortly after, he went to study at the National School of Music and Dance Arts "Dobrin Petkov" in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. At the time of his graduation from the NSMDA "Dobrin Petkov", he was the winner of a string of national guitar competitions as a solo and chamber participant, for which he was awarded the school prize for high musical achievements. In 2009 Pavel was admitted to the Royal Academy of Music on a full-fees scholarship, spending two years studying with prof. Michael Lewin. He recently received an LRSM Diploma with distinction. An enthusiastic teacher, in 2016 he was back in Plovdiv to give performance classes to students at “Dobrin Petkov”. A Bulgarian guitar duo was recently formed by Pavel and fellow NSMDA pupil Kiril Boshikyov, with the purpose of creating new arrangements and expanding the existing repertoire.

Pavel has participated in performance classes with some of the most important figures in the classical guitar world, such as Fabio Zanon, David Russell, Marcin Dylla, George Vassilev and others. He has performed live on both Bulgarian National Television and Radio, at the Bulgarian National Opera, Plovdiv Philharmonic and various small venues in and around London. His other interests include religion, philosophy, and the humanities as a whole.

In 2014, Pavel became part of the DaCapo team, and has since grown to strongly believe in the organisation's ethos and philosophy. He currently teaches guitar at the Saturday Centre and is the Concert Administrator. Pavel is a first-hand witness and proof that the inclusive and positive teaching methods used at Da Capo, together with the friendly and collaborative environment at the Saturday Centre work on pupils and teachers alike – having been terrified of teaching young children before, he has discovered that he really enjoys teaching toddler and nursery groups!
