Primary School Music
The DaCapo primary school music programme is a progressive, engaging and complex programme based on Kodaly and Eurythmics with appropriate repertoire and use of quality instruments.
The long term aspiration is that children will be able to: sing from notation, write standard western notation as well as read scores while listening. They will be able to convert their knowledge and understanding into the practice of playing instruments and begin to build an understanding of the traditional terminology used in music in relation to their knowledge and experience.
The programme engages the whole class and maintains an interest throughout a 45 minute session. Ideally a DaCapo teacher works with other adults in the room and they participate as effective assistants.
If the budget does not allow for this, DaCapo offer a training programme that enables classroom teachers or TAs with little or no musical expertise to teach the programme with support from visiting DaCapo teachers three times each term.
The programme uses:
- a ‘ToolBox’ of aims, objectives, plans and activities.
- age appropriate repertoire
- quality resources
- ideas for creating worksheets, resources for interactive whiteboards etc.
- creative ideas, including going off piste!
- sharing and performance.
